Pre-orders open on October 16, 2026, and it goes on sale on October 23 at $1,999 for 256 GB. This page is written from Apple's published specifications; nobody outside Apple has used one for long yet.

Three things the specs tell you

It is thin open and thick closed. At 5.2 mm unfolded, Apple calls it the thinnest iPhone it makes. Folded, it is 11.3 mm, about 40% thicker than an iPhone 17 (7.95 mm), and at 254 g it is heavier than an 18 Pro Max (249 g).

Touch ID is back. It is the first new iPhone since the third-generation iPhone SE of 2022 to unlock with a fingerprint, and the first with the sensor in the side button. Apple's specifications list no Face ID.

The battery depends on how you use it. 44 hours of video on the small outer screen, 31 on the large inner one: a Duo used mostly open will need charging about as often as an iPhone 17 (30 hours).

Who should buy one

The people who will love the Duo are those who already read, edit documents or watch video on their phone for hours, and who carry a tablet for the rest. For them it replaces two devices. Everybody else is paying $800 over an 18 Pro for a larger screen and losing the 4x telephoto.

There is also the money. Across all brands, foldable phones lost 64.6% of their value in their first year in SellCell's June 2026 study, against 55.3% for other flagships. No folding iPhone existed when that was measured, and Apple's phones usually hold their value better than average. Still, budget for a first-year loss of around $1,000.
